a hoUSe is...

Not a home without a dachshund. As anyone who has owned or been around a sausage dog knows, these delightful dogs are full of character. To quote Queen Victoria: "Nothing will turn a man's home into a castle more quickly and effectively than a dachshund". They may be small in stature, but their personalities (and voice) are as big as they come. You will soon learn that a dachshund owns you, not the other way around!

MIXING BUSINESS WITH PLEASURE

Why Dachshunds Daycare?

Dachshunds are often described as half-dog high and a dog-and-a-half long. Their sausage shape is one of the many reasons behind their huge appeal; they are incredibly handsome and cute. Their length, however, makes them prone to back problems and at risk of Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD). In addition, their size can cause them to be anxious of other dogs, particularly bigger dogs (which, let's face it, is just about all of them). As a result, they often prefer the company of other sausage dogs and quickly recognise 'one of their own'. In a pack, you'll see even the timidest find new levels of confidence and boldness.

Dachshunds are incredibly loyal and loving to their owners: you have a best friend for life and a constant shadow (who, if you're not careful, you'll soon to be tripping over). But they don't like being left alone and many, like Benji, suffer from separation anxiety. This is a real concern to us owners on the rare occasions we have to leave them, which sooner or later, we must.

For all of the reasons above, whenever I have had to leave Frankie & Benji, I needed to feel comfortable they were being looked after by someone who understands this rather special breed. I also wanted them to board in a dachshund-only environment, so I wouldn't have to worry about them being intimidated or bowled over by other bigger, more boisterous dogs.

I am extremely grateful to Phil Curtis at the Sausage Dog Hotel (Berkshire), who has looked after Frankie & Benji on several occasions and, in July 2019, enabled us to have our first family holiday in three years, travelling around Italy on a two-week break.

The peace of mind the Sausage Dog Hotel provided me is what prompted me to launch Dachshunds Daycare: to offer a similar, albeit much, much smaller scale alternative in the Midlands, specifically Northamptonshire. The only dog walk, daycare and home boarding service dedicated to dachshunds in this region.

Our house is sausage dog friendly and we already share our bedroom with Frankie & Benji, who have their own large luxury crate. We have a good-sized, fully enclosed garden, a large living room, conservatory, kitchen and dining room. Stair gates prevent the dogs going up or down the stairs without assistance and, to deter jumping up and off the comfy sofas in both the living and dining rooms, we have installed multiple pet stairs (a source of great amusement to most visitors).

Since I like nothing more than being with my own two dogs (and have been banned from buying any more of my own!), being able to spend more time with Frankie & Benji, and give other people's beloved dogs the same care and attention I give my own, seemed like a no brainer. (Plus I really quite like the idea of being known as 'The Furbaby Godmother'!).

Et voilà, Dachshunds Daycare...
